Christians in Pakistan

Pakistan is sixth highly populated country of the world having 180 Million population where 96% is Muslims, 2% Christians and 1.5% Hindus and other religious minorities. The Christians make round 4 million of total population who are living in fear, harassment, terror, social injustice, poverty and religious discrimination. In the last two decades, attacks on Christians and other minorities put more pressure and sense of insecurity among the Christians in Pakistan. There were many continuous attacks on the homes and villages of the Christians where they lost their homes, households, livestock, vehicles and even their lives. Christians are the most weaker group of the Pakistani community. They are deprived from basic needs of life like healthy food, clean drinking water and education. Their children are compelled to work in Muslims homes and fields where they treated brutally and worst than animals.

The young boys and girls are victims to rape and sexual harassment. The girls are source of entertainment for their masters and many girls are killed by them if found pregnant or if they leak the news against their masters. The economic situation of the Christians is worst in Pakistan and more than 90% Christians living under poverty line.

The majority of the population are Muslims who are landlords, brick kiln owners and businessman. Christians are engaged in sanitation works, brick kiln workers, worker of the landlords (Sappis or tenants), daily wages laborers, loaders & unloaders, Govt. employees, house maids, skilled & less skilled workers and involved in the carpet industry. They are purposely low paid and deprived from the basic rights and needs of life.

They are purposely low paid and deprived from the basic rights and needs of life.

They have been working at the brick kilns and on the lands of their landowners from generations to generations. Their children are almost slaves to them; every new born child is slave to their landowners and their masters. They are purposely low paid people and living on less than 2$ a day where in many cases they do not get their salary on monthly or weekly basis but they get it semi-annually after harvesting the crops. In the meantime they are totally depended on their landlords and they are prey to heavy debts. As the workers are illiterate and they never know what is written in the ledgers of landlords.

Christians in Pakistan engaged in low ranks jobs the majority is sanitary workers and they always put their lives in danger to earn 1$ a day. No, facilities are available for them and even no one to compensate on their death. Many families lost their sons, husbands and fathers during their job. During their work daily deaths are reported from all over the country.

There are many ethnic and minority religious groups that are particularly discriminated. There are many federal laws that discriminated against minorities; they cannot run for high ranking governmental jobs such as president, prime minister, chief minister, governor, army chief or army general and even it is very difficult for them to start the small scale business in the town like they cannot open the butcher shop, hotels, motels even they cannot sell fruits or vegetables as Christians are considered untouched and unholy creature.

Christians can't get the high rank positions and this discrimination is elaborated in the constitute of the Pakistan. To penetrate this discrimination in the next generation these elements are part of school books and taught to the children from grade 4. Therefore Christians are facing two dimensional discrimination: -

Christians are poor and weaker groups of the community

Faith based discrimination means they are Christians

They are under the heavy debts from their master and these debts never decreased. The workers continuously pay their debts and they never get the full wages of their work. They always get half and rest they pay as their debt.

Many children and girls are raped by their owners and they cannot lift their voices high. They are working as slaves and no one is there to help them to get free.

In the picture above; Christian girl age 12 is working on brik klin with her mother. Many children like her working under the brik klins and under the heavy debts. This girl was raped by their masters infornt of her parents and she tired to kill herself towicely.

There are certain laws against Christians where the blasphemy law is like a naked sword. ( Blasphemy can be proved with two witnesses if they say the words orally or found written anywhere , there is death plenty if anyone found guilty ) . There is a Several hundred have been persecuted under blasphemy laws and death sentences have been handed out to at least a dozen. Blasphemy allegations are often made on the flimsiest of evidence but enraged mobs pressure the police into registering cases. In court, the alleged act of blasphemy cannot even be repeated, as that would be an act of blasphemy in itself, so verdicts are reached in the absence of the main piece of evidence.
